Rabat – A recent research by the International School Database revealed that the Moroccan city of Casablanca is the third cheapest city in the world for international education in 2022, with an average cost of $4,067 (MAD 41,245) per year.
The cost of international education in the Moroccan city saw a 14.1% year-to-year drop compared to $4,735 (MAD 48,020) in 2021.
International school fees in Casablanca ranged from a minimum of $1,570 (MAD 15,922) to a maximum of $11,734 (MAD 119,000) in 2022, indicated the report.
In addition, Casablanca ranked as the second cheapest city in Africa, while the capital of Kenya, Nairobi, is the most expensive city on the continent when it comes to international schooling.
Nairobi is followed by Ethiopia’s Addis Ababa, South Africa’s Johannesburg, and Uganda’s Kampala. Meanwhile, Cape Town came at the bottom of the ranking as the cheapest city in Africa.
“Africa continues to offer the lowest costs for international schools compared to other regions. Of the 76 cities included in our analysis, African cities all ranked among the 20 least expensive,” noted the report.

In regard to the prices of international schooling in the Middle East, the Dubai Metropolitan Area, which consists of Dubai, Ajman, and Sharjah, remains the most expensive in the region.
Meanwhile, Qatar’s Doha ranked as the second most expensive city in the Middle East, followed by Oman’s Muscat, the UAE’s capital Abu Dhabi, and Kuwait city.
On the international level, New York remains the most expensive city in the world for international schooling, with an average yearly cost of $43,100 (MAD 437,098).
The Chinese capital of Beijing followed in second place with an average schooling cost of $36,243 (MAD 367,558). In addition to Beijing, the report listed three other Chinese cities among the 10 most expensive in the world, including Shanghai (third worldwide), Shenzhen (sixth), and Guangzhou (seventh).
Of the 76 cities included in the report, 43 cities recorded an increase in the average cost of international schooling compared to 2021.
