Rabat – A tragic flight crash has claimed the lives of dozens of passengers near an airport in central Nepal on Sunday.
A Yeti Airlines flight from Kathmandu to Pokhara in Nepal crashed upon landing before catching fire.
Reports on the death toll due to the nature of the plane crash have differed from one source to another.
While news outlet CNN reported the death of at least 32 people, the Guardian said that the death toll reached 44 people.
BBC quoted an official from Nepal who put the “fatalities as high as 62,”
while another one reported the recovery of 29 deceased bodies.
Army spokesperson Krishna Bhandari said that rescue teams are still expecting to recover more bodies from the crash.
The plane was carrying 72 people onboard including 68 passengers and four members of the crew.
Nepal Police Spokesperson Tek Prasad Rai told Al Jazeera that no survivors have been found so far, stressing that the number of people killed during the tragic incident reached 44.
Local official Gurudatta Dhakal said that responders have reached the site of the incident and are trying to douse the fire.
“All agencies are now focused on first dousing the fire and rescuing the passengers,” he said.
