Rabat – FIFA has featured Morocco’s head coach Walid Regragui along with football stars Achraf Hakimi and Yassine Bounou among the nominees competing for the Best FIFA Football Awards.
“The Best FIFA Football Awards will celebrate exceptional achievements across the men’s and women’s game,” FIFA said in a press release today, stressing that the vote is now open and covers several categories.
Morocco’s head coach Walid Regragui is competing for the Best FIFA Men’s Coach award along with France’s manager Didier Deschamps, Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola, Real Madrid’s Carlo Ancelotti, and Argentina’s coach Lionel Scaloni.
FIFA also named Morocco’s and Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) right-back Achraf Hakimi among the players competing for the Best FIFA Men’s Player award.
The list of nominees includes big names of the sport, such as Sadio Mane, Kylian Mbape, Karim Benzema, Mohamed Salah, and Lionel Messi.
For the category of the Best FIFA Men’s Goalkeeper, nominees include Morocco’s Yassine Bounou alongside Thibaut Courtois, Ederson, Emiliano Martinez, and Alisson Becker.
Morocco’s Atlas Lions and head coach Walid Regragui earned respect for their uplifting performances during the 2022 FIFA World Cup, where the Moroccan squad became the first African and Arab-speaking national team to reach the semifinals of the prestigious tournament.
The historic run of the Atlas Lions at the Qatar World Cup has earned several Moroccan football players a spot in renowned rankings.
In its latest report, the International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS) featured Morocco’s Hakimi in the 2022 men’s world team of the year. In addition, the IFFHS also report Bounou and Regragui among the world’s best goalkeepers and coaches, respectively.
