Rabat – Morocco’s Noussair Mazraoui is set to miss six to eight weeks of action with German football club Bayern Munich after he contracted COVID-19, according to coach Julian Nagelsmann.

Speaking at a press conference on Sunday, Nagelsmann said that the health of the right-back is stable. However, he might not be able to play with the team for up to two months.

“In general, he is fine on a daily basis. But he got tired very quickly when he had to climb a few flights of stairs,” the German coach said.

In comparison to Canadian player Alphonso Davies’ injuries, the coach described Mazaroui’s health issues as “less dramatic.” He continued: “Nevertheless, it is something that forces him to take a longer break from the sport,” he added.

Last week, Bayern Munich’s sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic said that Mazraoui’s absence from the team was “a huge loss.”

“He will have all the time he needs to recover fully. Injuries like this must be treated as carefully as possible,” Salihamidzic added.

Noussair Mazraoui tested positive for Covid-19 during the World Cup in Qatar last month. The infection lead Mazraoui to miss out on Morocco’s quarter-final against Portugal on December 10.
