Rabat – Moroccan football player Anass Zaroury has joined Atlas Lions captain Roman Saiss in calling on fans to respect his privacy and family life.
“I attach great importance to ensuring respect for the private life and family aspect of my life,”he said in an Instagram post. The post took aim at “false accounts, false rumors” that have circulated about his life in recent days, saying fans and the media should refrain from his private life.
“This has nothing to do with my status as a professional footballer,” he said of one of the recent reports about his life, adding: “and I want to put a clear separation.”
Zaroury’s message comes just a week after Romain Saiss, his captain and teammate from the Moroccan national football team, made a similar appeal.
In a letter shared with his fans on social networks, the captain of Morocco’s national team asked fans and the media to respect his private life. Saiss stressed the need for fans to not cross the “clear line” he has strived to draw between his personal life and his career as a football player.
“As you noticed that I have made sure to draw a clear line between my public life as a football player and my private life and family life throughout my career,” he said. “However, in recent days, photos and videos of a purely private nature have ended up on social networks without my consent.”
The Atlas Lions captain said that such “attacks” on his private life are “unacceptable,” stressing that he will take a legal action against anyone that does not respect his privacy in the future.
Like many Moroccan football players, Saiss was the target of much speculation and many slanderous, unproven allegations during the 2022 World Cup.
On December 15 of last year, French newspaper Paris Match issued an apology to Saiss after falsely reporting that he was involved in a romantic affair with Moroccan singer Salma Rachid.
