Rabat – French newspaper Paris Match has issued an official apology to Moroccan football player Romain Saiss after falsely reporting last week that the player was involved in an affair with Moroccan singer Salma Rachid.

The original article was posted days after Morocco’s defeat against the French team in the World Cup semi-finals. On December 16, the newspaper issued an apology titled “Erratum on the private life of Romain Saïss.”

The apology read: “On December 14, 2022, an error about the private life of Romain Saïss appeared on the website of Paris Match. This false information claimed that the captain of the Moroccan soccer team was in a relationship with Salma Rachid.”

It continued: “We apologize to Romain Saïss for this false information, as well as to his wife, but also to Salma Rachid and to all their relatives.”

Romain Saiss is known for maintaining a low profile as he strives to keep his private life away from the public. The captain of the Moroccan national football team keeps a private Instagram profile, and never posts about his family on social media.

A veteran and pillar of the widely celebrated Moroccan Atlas Lions, Saiss has had an impressive record with both the Moroccan team and his various clubs.  and at the club level.  The experienced defender currently plays as a center-back for Turkish Super Lig club Besiktas.
