Rabat – Morocco’s national football team will play two friendly games against Brazil and Peru in March, the Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) announced today.

The Atlas Lions will have their first friendly faceoff against Brazil on March 25 in the Tangier Grand Stadium at 10 p.m. Moroccan time.

Despite losing to Croatia on penalties in the quarter-finals of the 2022 FIFA World Cup, Brazil currently tops FIFA’s ranking of the world’s best national teams.

Morocco’s second friendly match will take place against Peru on March 28 in Spain. The game will take place at Civitas Metropolitan Stadium in Madrid at 9:30 p.m. local time.

The announcement of the friendly games comes a few months following Morocco’s historic run at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

The Moroccan Atlas Lions gained unprecedented popularity during the World Cup — they defied all odds by beating a number of highly ranked teams and being the first African and Arab country to reach the last four of the prestigious global tournament.

The national team showed resilience throughout the competition and only lost two games — against Croatia during the third-place playoff and France in the semi-finals.

Because of their spectacular performances in Qatar, several members of Morocco’s national football team have notably been on the radar of many elite European football clubs in the past months.

Morocco’s national team is the 11th-best football team in the latest FIFA ranking. The Atlas Lions are also the first-best team in Africa, ahead of Senegal, Tunisia, Cameroon, and Nigeria. Egypt is sixth in the list, while Algeria, ranked 7th on the continent, is followed by Mali, Cote d’Ivoire, Burkina Faso, and Ghana.
