Rabat – Moroccan footballer Abdelkabir Abqar, who plays as a central defender for Spanish club Deportivo Alaves, has said that he aspires to be a starter for both Alaves and the Moroccan national team.
The Moroccan footballer told Spain’s Cadena SER radio network that he looks up to his teammate, Spanish professional footballer Victor Laguardia, who always advises him on how to improve and avoid making mistakes.
“It would be a dream come true for me to achieve his career. I dream of being a player with Alaves in the First Division and with the Moroccan team,” he continued.
Abqar told the Spanish radio network that he began playing soccer on the streets at a young age, left his hometown when he was 11, and began his training in Rabat.
Speaking about the challenges he faced while becoming a football player, Abqar said “I arrived in Spain without knowing the language. I’ve learned it without studying it by talking with my teammates.”
The Moroccan footballer expressed gratitude for his friendship with Morocco international and Sevilla FC striker Youssef En-Nesyri, describing him as “an older brother” and emphasizing that he moved to Spain thanks to him. “We talk every week and before games,” he said.
The Spanish radio station also emphasized Abqar’s remarkable performance with Alaves at only 23 years old. The rising talent expressed his gratitude for everything that has happened to him, saying, “I am managing it with great humility and always looking to learn more.”
Abqar’s contract with Alaves is set to expire on June 30, 2025, according to transfer market.
Abqar has joined the list of Moroccans who wish to play for Morocco’s national team such as teenage striker Ilyes Housni as well as Moroccan footballers Samy Mmaee and Ryan Mmaee.
