Rabat – Convicted Ghislaine Maxwell, who is serving a 20-year sentence in prison due to her involvement in Jeffery Epstein’s case on the sexual abuse of minors, is reportedly planning to appeal the court’s sentence.
The Daily Mail quoted an unnamed source close to the defendant’s family, who said that Maxwell is planning to pay $10 million on an appeal case against her 20-year prison sentence.
Maxwell is supposedly going to fund her appeal using her recent divorce settlement money from her ex-husband Scott Borgerson. However, her ex-husband reportedly refused to release money from her $20 million trust fund.
On June 28, 2022, a US attorney in New York announced the court’s 20-year prison sentence against Maxwell for multiple charges, including “her role in a scheme to sexually exploit and abuse multiple minors girls with Jeffrey Epstein over the course of a decade.”
“Maxwell was previously found guilty on December 29, 2021, following one-month jury trial, of conspiracy to entice minors to travel to engage in illegal sex acts, conspiracy to transport minors to participate in illegal sex acts, transporting a minor to participate in illegal sex acts, sex trafficking conspiracy, and sex trafficking of a minor,” Maxwell’s sentence communique reads.
Maxwell had close ties with Epstein, who committed suicide in prison on August 10, 2019.
Guards found the American financier and convicted pedophile unresponsive in a jail cell at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in New York, where he was awaiting his trial on sex trafficking charges.
Many have questioned the nature of the relations between Epstein and Maxwell. Questions were raised wondering whether the pair were “partners or partners in crimes.”
“The answer hinges somewhat on the nature of their relationship. Did Maxwell serve as the late financier’s consigliere, or act as his girlfriend and procurer?” the Guardian wrote.
The British news outlet said that evidence from the trial, including a photo of Maxwell massaging Epstein’s foot “reveals an apparent romantic connection that elevates her role in his life beyond that of a mere fixer and friend.”
Maxwell, who is a disgraced British socialist, spoke in a television interview from prison about the Epstein case, claiming she wished she had “never met” him.
The 61-year-old woman, who maintains that she is innocent, also brought up a theory that Epstein “was murdered.”
“I was shocked. Then I wondered how it had happened because as far as I was concerned, he was going to … I was sure he was going to appeal,” she said.
Earlier this month, converging reports said that court documents containing 167 associates of convicted pedophile Epstein are set to be released.
The sex offender was known to associate himself with a list of connections from US’ high society and celebrities, including Kevin Spacey and Chris Tucker. Epstein is also known to have advised and consulted Tesla’s CEO Elon Musk.
