Rabat – Olapex, an international hair care company, is facing legal action from 28 women who claim their products cause hair loss, among other undesirable effects.

The company’s products include shampoos, conditioners, and other hair care products that Olaplex says can “repair broken bonds and rejuvenate hair.”

According to the lawsuit quoted in a BBC report, however, the products contain dangerous substances that leave the hair and scalp in a worse condition. Olaplex has released documents indicating that its products are safe.

“We are prepared to vigorously defend our company, our brand, and our products against these baseless accusations,” Olaplex said on Instagram.

Olaplex did retract any of its products from the market following the lawsuit, the BBC indicated in its report.

Once endorsed by celebrities including Kim Kardashian, the company’s products are widely popular for hair that has been bleached. The lawsuit claims that the women behind the case “have lost their hair – in some cases more than half and leaving bald spots in others,” adding that the hair that was left was “dry, brittle, frizzy and dull.”

Filed last week in California, the lawsuits include photos of plaintiffs showcasing bald spots that they say were caused by the use of Olaplex products.

Legal documents quoted in the BBC report further indicate that some of the plaintiffs experienced “extreme itchiness, rashes, yeast infections, bacterial infections, burning, open sores – and as a result, depression.”

The plaintiffs are demanding that the company pay $75,000 in damages, but Olaplex maintains its denial of any wrongdoing.
