Morocco’s flag carrier Royal Air Maroc (RAM) has informed its passengers of its decision to cancel a few flights to and from Frankfurt on Friday due to a series of strikes at German airports.
“Following the strike notice at Frankfurt airport for the day of February 17, 2023, Royal Air Maroc regrets to inform its passengers of the cancellation of flights AT810 and AT811 on the 17th [of February],” Royal Air Maroc wrote.
The national carrier said that it will reimburse affected passengers for their tickets or allow them to change their flight date depending on availability. The measure also allows passengers to change flights to another destination within Royal Air Maroc’s European network within 15 days of the date of the canceled flight.
“We invite passengers whose flights have been canceled not to show up at the airport and to contact their initial point of sale or the RAM call center to benefit from the above provisions,” Royal Air Maroc concluded.
Several labor unions in Germany have announced their decision to carry out a strike to demand wage increases and denounce labor shortage.
“The workers are jointly applying pressure on their respective employers because negotiations so far have been unable to produce results,” Deputy Chair of Trade Union Verdi Christine Behle said.
In addition to Frankfurt, Royal Air Maroc also canceled some flights to and from Paris today.
Morocco’s National Airports Office (ONDA) called on travelers heading to and from France between February 15-17 to contact their airlines and confirm if their flights are affected by the ongoing strikes in France.
France has been witnessing a series of strikes against the French government’s proposed pension reforms.
The French government wants to raise the retirement age from 62 to 64, triggering outrage among citizens.
