Rabat – Spain’s Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez has just arrived in Morocco, leading a large delegation that will take part in the 12th session of the Morocco-Spain High-Level Meeting.
Welcoming Sanchez upon his arrival at the Rabat-Sale international airport were Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch and Spain’s ambassador to Morocco, Ricardo Diez-Hochleitner Rodriguez.
The high-level meeting between the two countries comes eight years after the previous one and in the wake of a newfound diplomatic honeymoon.
Since pledging in April of last year to further deepen their bilateral ties after a year-long rift, Morocco and Spain have repeatedly signaled their shared desire to continue boosting their diplomatic relations in all sectors.
Earlier today, King Mohammed VI expressed satisfaction with the cooperation between the two countries and renewed Rabat’s determination to cement ties with Madrid.
The King made his remarks during a phone call with Sanchez ahead of the Spanish PM’s landing in Morocco.
According to a statement from the Royal Palace, the Moroccan monarch especially welcomed the “evolution” of the new phase of bilateral cooperation that started on April 7, 2022.
The King invited Sanchez to Morocco during the call, emphasizing that this visit will be an “opportunity to further strengthen bilateral relations through concrete actions marked by the tangible projects in strategic areas of common interest.”
