Rabat – King Mohammed VI has expressed his heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased politician Abdelwahed Radi.

In a message, the monarch extended his condolences to the politician’s family, his political circle, the Socialist Union of Popular Forces (USFP), and to all his friends and fans.

The king recalled the veteran’s career, saying it was marked by his exemplary loyalty, dedication, and sincerity in the service of his country.

The king also recalled the qualities of the deceased known for sincere patriotism, political prowess, integrity, and competence in the various senior governmental, parliamentary, and university functions he held under both the late king Hassan II and king Mohammed VI.

Radi died on Sunday, March 26 at a clinic in Paris aged 85.  Born in 1935 in Sale, he founded the National Union of Popular Forces (UNFP) in 1959, known today as (USFP).

Radi first became a member of parliament in 1963. He was the president of the Assembly of Representatives of Morocco from 1997 to 2007 and from 2010 to 2011.

The veteran politician contributed to the establishment of several educational and cultural associations. He also worked as a social psychology professor at Mohammed V University in Rabat.

“The Social Union as well as the entire country have lost one of their great national leaders… He was the one we resorted to for discussing any issue and at any time,” a member of the Social Union told a Moroccan television channel.

“The last time I saw him was at the airport heading to Paris for medical treatment. I had great hope for his safe comeback, but the destiny was greater. May Allah bless his soul and grant him paradise.”
