Rabat – Morocco’s Ministry of Health said that it will no longer publish daily COVID-19 updates, starting Monday.
The ministry will publish a weekly notice instead, including COVID-19 cases confirmed throughout the week every Friday evening on its website and social platforms.
COVID-19 remains a global health emergency, the ministry said, stressing that the National Center for Public Health Emergency Operations will continue to accurately track the epidemiological situation at both the international and national levels.
The ministry also advised people who suffer from respiratory symptoms to wear a facemask and avoid going to crowded places.
It also urged the elderly and people with chronic diseases to complete vaccination doses to boost their immunity against CO
VID-19.
The decision comes as Morocco’s epidemiological situation continues to witness significant improvements, with the country now reporting a few COVID-19 cases on a daily basis compared to hundreds of cases in the past years.
In the past 24 hours, Morocco recorded only three COVID-19 cases, zero deaths, and 10 recoveries, while active cases are estimated at 43 cases in total.
Prior to announcing the suspension of the daily COVID-19 update, Morocco had eased many restrictions related to travel and movement.
In particular, Moroccan authorities announced on February 27 that travelers no longer need a health passenger form to access Morocco’s territory.
Morocco has also halted other COVID-related restrictions, including mandatory PCR and vaccine access to access the Moroccan territory.
In addition, the country’s government has lifted the state of emergency, which until recently was extended monthly after it was first introduced in March 2020.
To date, the government has not announced the extension of the state of emergency, which expired at the end of February 2023.
