Rabat – Morocco’s football team has faced heinous racist and Islamophobic acts at the Eurostars Madrid Tower hotel.

The Atlas Lions traveled to Madrid on Sunday in preparation for their friendly game against Peru, which will take place on Tuesday.

Several photos online showed employees from the hotel making fun of Morocco’s Atlas Lions and the holy month of Ramadan.

“Damn f*** Moros. I s*** on Ramadan and it’s f*** dead,” one of the screenshots of the insulting posts from some of the hotel employees reads.

Another viral screenshot went on to insult the Moroccan football team as well as Islam.

“The Moroccan team is in the Towers, you are a f*** pain,” one of the posts read.

Several Spanish media reported on the Islamophobic attack, stressing the Atlas Lions’ stay in Spain “has been marred by some unpleasant incidents” at the Eurostars Madrid Tower hotel.

According to Spanish sports outlet AS, the Eurostars Madrid Towers strongly condemned the events, clarifying that they are taking legal action against the perpetrators.

“First of all, we want to apologize to everyone who has been offended by what happened,” AS quoted one of the managers from the hotel as saying.

“Im an Arab person, a Muslim who is celebrating Ramadan like many colleagues in the hotels and for this reason we feel as hurt as any Muslim in the world,” the manager added, stressing that the establishment is condemning any racist act.

“We apologize again to all people who have felt offended,” he added.

The hotel manager emphasized that people responsible for the acts have been fired and are placed at the police’s disposal to be “held accountable” for their acts.
