As the world celebrates international women’s day and honors strong influential women, it is fitting to recognize Houyam Benhammou, the event manager who played a vital role in the organization of media coverage operations during the 2022 World Cup.
In 2005, Benhammou enrolled in the Higher Institute of Information and Communication in Rabat (ISIC). This provided her with extensive training in journalism and communication, Benhammou developed strong journalistic skills and gained valuable experience in the media industry.
In 2009, after completing her journalism studies at ISIC, she landed a job at French-language daily newspaper in Morocco Le Matin, where she worked as a staff writer. Just six months later, she transitioned to producing radio programs at an Arabic Radio station named Aswat, after this she then took on a new role as a news presenter at Med Radio.
However, her career took an unexpected turn when she was offered a job as a public relations manager at the Moroccan Football Royal Federation. Through hard work and dedication, she rose through the ranks to be an event media manager where she discovered her true passion for managing football events.
Benhammou built an impressive reputation for herself through her professionalism and determination and eventually was hired by the African Confederation of Football (CAF) as a senior media officer where she oversaw media operations for CAF’s competitions.
Today, the ambitious football event manager has reached her dream by joining FIFA in October 2021 as a media coordinator where she organized media operations in Al Bayt stadium during the 2022 World Cup. As one of the world’s largest global events, the World Cup media coverage is a critical component of its success. Benhammou’s role was therefore crucial in ensuring the conduct of media operations was of the highest quality.
The career-driven woman continuously seeks opportunities to learn and grow in her field. Given the fast-changing landscape of media, event management, and communication, it is crucial to stay updated with the latest trends to remain competitive and relevant. Through the years and experience, Benhammou took many courses online about mastering crisis communication, social media branding, management, and leadership in order to improve the quality of her service in the jobs she takes on.
