Rabat – A third flight carrying Moroccans from Sudan as part of Morocco’s evacuation efforts landed today at Casablanca’s Mohammed V International Airport.
The Royal Air Maroc (RAM) flight carried 154 more Moroccan nationals amid the political crisis in Sudan, bringing the total number of Moroccans evacuated from Sudan to 447.
The evacuation comes as part of royal instructions, ordering the government to facilitate the return of Moroccans stranded in Sudan amid a political crisis.
For the past two weeks, the country has been the ground of clashes between the army and the Rapid Support Forces, a feared paramilitary group.
In an interview this week with Moroccan news outlet Le360, Sudanese ambassador to Morocco Mawada Omar Hageltoam celebrated “calm” being restored in her country.
“Thanks God, the situation is being stabilized by the Sudanese army” against paramilitaries belonging to the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) of General Mohammed Hamdan Daglo, said El Badawi.
The ambassador, who renewed her country’s rejection of international intervention in the ongoing conflict, also expressed satisfaction with the launch of the repatriation operation of Moroccans from Sudan. She said that the operation was initiated as soon as the request of King Mohammed VI reached the Sudanese authorities.
