Rabat – King Mohammed VI has appointed Lieutenant General Mohammed Berrid as the new Inspector General of the Royal Moroccan Armed Forces (FAR) and Commander of the Southern Zone. Lieutenant General Berrid will replace Inspector General Belkhir El Farouk at the top of Morocco’s military hierarchy, only outranked by the monarch who is commander-in-chief.

On this occasion, King Mohammed VI decorated Lieutenant El Farouk with the the Grand Cordon of the Order of Throne, in recognition of his distinguished career and services in the defense of the nation and the throne, according to a statement from the Ministry of Royal Palaces, Honors, and Decorations.

El Farouk previously served as the General of the army in charge of the Moroccan army’s role in the Western Sahara region.

The monarch paid tribute to the country’s Royal Armed Forces on multiple occasions, recognizing their contribution to preserving peace and security in the country.

On the 66th anniversary of the creation of the FAR, which took place in May 2022, King Mohammed VI emphasized the troops’s great contribution in maintaining peace and safeguarding the country’s territorial integrity.

“Our deep conviction in the importance of the noble missions that you accomplish on the security and military levels, and the experiences and achievements that you have accumulated in the field of risk and crisis management make us aware of the correctness of the approach that we have adopted for the development of Our Royal Armed Forces in terms of structure and organization,” the monarch said in his speech.
