Rabat – With the official date of  Eid Al Fitr only confirmed following the crescent moon sighting, astronomers expect Kuwait to celebrate the end-of-Ramadan festival on Friday, April 21.

News outlet Nabae Hasry recalled that the official date for Eid Al Fitr is only confirmed following the crescent moon sighting.

According to the Kuwaiti news outlet Nabae Hasry, scholars believe that Muslims in some countries will fast 29 days in this year’s Ramadan, including in Kuwait.

Last week, Kuwait announced a five-day holiday to all workers at public institutions like ministries and other governmental bodies.

The holiday is set to begin from April 21-25, with work resuming on April 26.

Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the UAE, and Egypt, among others, are also expected to announce Friday as the first day for Eid Al Fitr celebrations.

However, other countries — including Morocco — are expected to celebrate Eid Al Fitr on Saturday, April 22.

Marking the end of Ramadan, Eid Al Fitr coincides with the beginning of Shawwal, the 10th month in the Islamic calendar.

Muslims start Eid Al Fitr festivities by performing “Salat Al Eid” or Eid prayers in congregation at mosques. Following the special Eid prayers, families gather around a morning breakfast table.

On this special day, children wear new clothes and receive several gifts, including money from their families. Sharing gifts during Eid Al Fitr is a common tradition across countries in the Gulf region.
