Rabat – Eid Al Fitr 2023 in Qatar is expected on Friday, April 21, according to astronomy calculations.

Qatar News Agency reported that specialists at the Qatar Calendar House expect Friday, April 21 2023, to be the first day of the month of Shawwal and the first day of Eid Al Fitr this year.

As it is too early to see the crescent that marks the end of Ramadan month, Qatar is yet to announce the official date of Eid Al Fitr.

“The final decision regarding the beginning of Shawwal for this year remains within the competence of the Crescent Sighting Committee at the Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs in the State of Qatar,” Qatar News Agency said.

According to the International Astronomical Center, the date of Eid Al Fitr will vary this year in the Islamic world depending on the sighting of the crescent of the month of Shawwal.

The center indicated that some regions of the Islamic world may be able to see the crescent with a telescope on Thursday, noting that most countries in the Islamic world are likely to celebrate Eid Al-Fitr on Friday, April 21.

In a few countries, Ramadan is projected to last 30 days, with Eid al-Fitr falling on Saturday April 22, the center added.

Countries like Saudi Arabia, the UAE, and Qatar are expected to celebrate on Friday instead.

Meanwhile, Moroccan astronomer Hicham Aissaoui expects the holiday to fall on April 22 in Morocco.

Eid Al Fitr is a special celebration that marks the completion of Ramadan and the beginning of Shawwal, the tenth month in the Islamic calendar.

Eid Al Fitr is an opportunity to spend quality time with family and friends while participating in numerous social and religious rituals and traditions as well as enjoying special Eid food and sweets after a month of fasting.
