Rabat – King Mohammed VI will commemorate today, April 17, Laylat Al Qadr, known in English as the Night of Decree or the Night of Power.

The religious evening will be held at Casablanca’s Hassan II Mosque, announced the Ministry of the Royal Household, Protocol and Chancellery in a statement.

The religious evening will be broadcast on Morocco’s national television and radio networks at the time of the Al-Isha prayer.

Laylat al-Qadr is one of the holiest days of the year for Muslims. In Islamic tradition, the night of power is believed to be better than a thousand months during which sins are forgiven, prayers are granted, and God’s mercy is abundant.

It occurs during the final 10 days of Ramadan—the precise date is unknown—but it is typically assumed to occur on the 21st, 23rd, 25th, 27th, or 29th day of Ramadan.

During Laylat al-Qadr, many Muslims spend their nights in prayer, reading the Quran, remembering Allah (dhikr), supplication, or engaging in other acts of worship.

After Tarawih prayers, some Moroccan families get together for dinner to eat couscous, while others commemorate their kids’ first fasts.

To commemorate this special occasion, young girls visit a Negafa (stylist) who dresses them up in makeup, fine traditional clothing, and gold adornments, as well as applying henna to their hands. Meanwhile, boys will typically dress in a djellaba and wear a Balgha.
