Rabat – Morocco’s King Mohammed VI has sent his condolences to the family of former minister and Moroccan Ambassador to Jordan Khalid Naciri, who passed away last night.
The monarch said in a message to the family that he learned of the politician’s death “with great emotion and deep sadness,” according to Morocco’s news agency MAP.
He also expressed his “deepest regrets and his best feelings of compassion” to the deceased’s family, relatives, as well as to the Party for Progress and Socialism (PPS), of which Naciri was a prominent leader.
The King added that he remembers the deceased’s merits with “great esteem,” calling him one of Morocco’s “most accomplished men,” recalling the many functions he occupied in the academic, governmental, and diplomatic fields.
Naciri passed away on Wednesday evening at a Rabat clinic after a battle with illness, according to converging news reports.
Born in 1949, the deceased assumed various political and diplomatic posts throughout his career.
Most notably, he was Minister of Communications and Spokesperson of the Government between 2007 and 2012, as part of the Abbas El Fassi government.
Naciri, who also taught political science and law in Moroccan universities, assumed a position as the North African country’s Ambassador to Jordan in 2018.
He obtained his bachelor in law from the Hassan II University in Casablanca in 1969, and a graduate degree in political science from the Mohammed V University in Rabat.
