Rabat – Sierra Leone has recognized and praised King Mohammed VI’s commitment and leading role in promoting South-South cooperation and solidarity across the African continent.
The west African country praised the monarch in a joint statement released at the end of the third session of the Joint Commission of Cooperation between Morocco and Sierra Leone, which took place today in the southern city of Dakhla.
The session was co-chaired by Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Nasser Bourita and African and Sierra Leone’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation David J. Francis.
In the statement, Francis expressed his country’s appreciation for Morocco’s contributions to promoting cohesion, peace, and prosperity in the sub-region, particularly through its involvement in the Mano River Union.
The statement also emphasized the importance of the Nigeria-Morocco gas pipeline project in boosting economic integration in the region and curbing the energy deficit of participating countries.
Both Bourita and Francis highlighted the strong bonds of friendship and mutual respect between King Mohammed VI and Julius Maada Bio, Sierra Leone’s president.
In addition, Bourita praised the Sierra Leonean president’s development efforts, stressing Morocco’s commitment to supporting the west African nation’s economic and human development.
During the meeting, Francis reiterated his country’s support for Morocco’s territorial integrity and sovereignty over the Sahara. He also expressed Sierra Leone’s “full support” for the United Nations’ role in finding a long-lasting solution to the dispute.
The two foreign ministers signed 13 bilateral agreements on various fields of cooperation. In addition, the pair discussed ways of boosting bilateral cooperation in a wide range of areas, including agriculture, trade, tourism, fertilizer, and industry.
