Rabat – The President of the Moroccan Federation of Building and Public Works (FNBTP), Mohamed Mahboub, recently celebrated in Cairo the country’s achievements and reforms in the building and public works sector.

Mahboub made his remarks on Sunday on the sidelines of the “Builders of Egypt 2023” forum, a regional forum aimed at discussing construction opportunities in Arab and African countries.

He stressed that the building industry is among the most crucial sectors for the Moroccan economy, contributing to around 6% of the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

In addition, the sector contributes to the creation of around 11% of employment opportunities in the country, Mahboub noted, highlighting the building sector as a pillar of Morocco’s economic growth.

Since Morocco gained its independence in 1956, the building sector has witnessed a significant increase in the volume of projects, which has greatly contributed to reducing social and spatial disparities.

Amid this progress, Morocco is committed to implementing regulatory, legislative, and institutional reforms to ensure efficiency, transparency, and good governance in the execution of public contracts, Mahboub indicated, noting that this includes the implementation of projects with high quality, at the lowest cost, and within the specified deadlines.

He further underlined the need for international cooperation to further develop the sector, noting that Morocco has established important regional and international partnerships with various countries.

IMorocco is keen to develop South-South cooperation, Mahboub then argued, stressing that the country has been committed to sharing its expertise in the building sector with other African countries. This includes know-how in various key sectors, including roads, airports, ports, and railways.

The regional meeting, which Egypt’s Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly inaugurated on Sunday, saw the participation of representatives from several Arab and African nations, including ministerial delegations and leaders in the industry.

The meeting served as a platform for the exchange of experiences and expertise between Arab and African countries in the field of construction and urban planning.
