Morocco’s BCIJ Arrests 7 Individuals for Unlicensed Practice of Medicine

Rabat – Morocco’s Central Bureau of Judicial Investigations (BCIJ) announced today the arrest of seven individuals for their alleged involvement in forgery, fraud, and unauthorized medical practice in the Moroccan cities of Meknes and Sale.

According to the BCIJ, two of the arrested individuals were previously detained under anti-terrorist laws due to their suspected ties with a criminal network specializing in forgery and the use of fraudulent documents.

The network engaged in illegal activities, including robbing from public funds and deceiving citizens by practicing the professions of doctor and dental surgeon without authorization, jeopardizing their health.

Preliminary investigations showed that two of the suspects impersonated licensed dental practitioners, with the help of three other dentists apprehended in the same case.

They carried out various dental procedures in clinics located in Sale, despite lacking the necessary authorization or legal documentation. These unlawful operations resulted in severe health complications for several victims, the BCIJ said, adding that patients underwent surgeries in direct violation of the laws governing the dental profession.

Further inquiries have revealed the suspects’ complicity in fabricating paperwork pertaining to hospitalization fees. This fraudulent scheme aimed to deceive health insurance companies and welfare and social insurance funds, enabling the suspects to illicitly obtain financial gains.

BCIJ put the suspects in custody pending further investigation under the supervision of the prosecutor’s office to determine the extent of their involvement in the case.

In March 2023, the BCIJ dismantled a three-member ISIS cell that was plotting terror attacks to undermine the country’s security and stability.
