Rabat – Lear Corporation, an American automotive seating and electrical systems manufacturer, has announced its plans to convert its Tangier plant into a Connection Systems facility. The move is expected to generate around 150 new job opportunities while further strengthening Lear’s manufacturing footprint in Morocco.
In a press release issued today, the global automotive technology company stated that the new Connection Systems plant, scheduled to start operations in the third quarter of 2023, will focus on the production of injection molded parts and engineered plastics for automakers, suppliers, and Lear’s E-Systems and Seating business units.
By repurposing an existing 5,300 square-meter facility, Lear aims to optimize its manufacturing capabilities, from seat assembly to component production for its Connections Systems business.
As part of this transition, the company has relocated its seating employees to other facilities in Morocco, ensuring a smooth transition while accommodating the expansion of the new plant.
Speaking about the company’s expansion, Lear Global Vice President, Electrical Distribution Systems and Connection Systems Enrique Orta said, “As one of the largest automotive employers in Morocco, Lear is proud to be opening a state-of-the-art facility in a country where we have been doing business since 2003.”
He added: “This plant will create new jobs and boost our design and production capabilities in the region to continue to deliver products on time with the highest levels of quality, value, and innovation to our customers.”
Lear Corporation initially entered the Moroccan market in 2003 and has since become one of the country’s largest job creators. With existing plants in Rabat, Kenitra, Tangier, and Meknes, the company employs over 19,000 team members across 17 sites in Morocco.
