King Mohammed VI Calls For Creation of Royal Center for Defense Studies and Research

Rabat – In celebration of the 67th anniversary of the Royal Armed Forces (FAR), King Mohammed VI has instructed the armed forces to create the Royal Center for Defense Studies and Research under the Royal College of Higher Military Education.

The King stressed that the mission of the center will be to contribute to boosting Morocco’s approach in tackling challenges facing the defense and security system in its global dimensions as well as to create a space for analytical, civil, and military competencies.

The center is part of Morocco’s approach to strengthen the country’s military logistical and operational capabilities as well as to “acquire modern technical means” in areas like the management of operations, surveillance and digitization.

Morocco’s efforts further include the launch of scientific research programs to align the country’s approach to the development of  Morocco’s military.

King Mohammed VI today paid tribute to Morocco’s military forces and stressed the importance of their determination and commitment towards their homeland.

In an order of the day to FAR members,  the monarch conveyed  Morocco’s congratulations as well as satisfaction with the armed forces’ dedication and discipline in the service of Morocco’s safeguarding and defense of its territorial integrity and security.

“The tasks you perform, the sincere will and self denial you show in defending the homeland and its territorial integrity, in keeping with the oath of the Green March, are the reasons for our pride and our esteem towards you and towards the commendable missions entrusted to the members of the Royal armed Forces, all components combined, land, air, naval, and Royal Gendarmerie,” the king said.

The monarch also emphasized the country’s diversified and strengthened military cooperation with its international partners – stressing FAR’s contribution to Morocco’s active participation in peacekeeping operations, as well as boosting partnerships to maintain local and regional security.

In addition, King Mohammed VI recalled the restoration of the military draft, which welcomed thousands of conscripts to receive military training in and receive professional qualifications.

In 2019, Morocco reintroduced mandatory military conscription after the adoption of law 44-19.

Under the law, the service lasts for 12 months and targets 19 to 25 years old candidates across the country.

The conscripts receive general and military training before proceeding to more advanced training at FAR training centers.

“We have ensured, during the restoration of military service, that conscripts receive training in both basic military expertise and professional qualification, which will help them sharpen their technical, physical, and psychological capabilities, as well as qualify them to project themselves into the future with hope, confidence and discipline, and be worthy of participating actively in the economic and social renaissance of the Homeland,” King Mohammed VI said.
