Following the tragic news spread by the Moroccan media yesterday concerning the death of the renowned artist Moulay Tahar Asbahani, King Mohammed VI has sent a message of compassion and condolences to the passing Moroccan artist’s family.
In this message, the Sovereign affirmed having learned with great emotion the news of the passing of the founder of the iconic band “Jil Jilala.”
On this sorrowful occasion, the King expressed to the members of the family of the deceased, to his national artistic family, and to all his relatives, friends, and fans, his heartfelt condolences and compassion for the loss of this great, multi-talented artist.
The king also referenced the artist’s contribution to the influence and uniqueness of Jil Jilala, a historic band whose musical style, themes, and rhythms are drawn from the authentic Moroccan cultural heritage.
The king paid homage to the deceased artist for his commendable services to Morocco, recalling his human qualities, sincere patriotism, and unfailing attachment to the Moroccan nation and Moroccan values.
The Moroccan sovereign prayed to Allah the Almighty to grant patience and comfort to Moulay Tahar’s family, concluding: “We surely belong to Allah and to Him we shall return. Truthful is the word of God.”
Born in Marrakech in 1948, Moulay Tahar Asbahani was, Moulay Tahar Asbahani was famous for singing traditional Moroccan songs and poems. He contributed to writing the history of singing and acting, as he was also a playwright. He used to compose songs for plays written by Tayeb Saddiki, a Moroccan theater director.
