Rabat – Morocco and Spain have expressed desire to promote cooperation in different sectors, including vocational training.

Spain’s General Secretary for Vocational Training, Clara Sanz, met with her Moroccan counterpart Mohammed Sebbaq on Thursday, with the pair stressing their shared objectives to strengthen cooperation in vocational training as well as in trade.

“The new Spanish vocational training system opens up multiple opportunities for us to carry out joint actions that serve to promote dual vocational training and improve economic opportunities on a bilateral basis,” Sanz said.

As part of the plan, Spain and Morocco seek to collaborate in different vocational training-related fields, including promoting exchange of students and teachers, as well as the expansion of the procedures for accreditation of professional experience of Moroccan citizens residing in Spain.

According to Europa Press, Spain’s desire to strengthen cooperation in vocational training comes in line with a commitment made by Minister of Education Pilar Alegria during the High Level Meeting held in Rabat in February.

During the meeting, the minister confirmed the straightening of Spain’s “presence in the field of training in Morocco.”

The meeting between Sanz and Sebbaq comes as both countries are working to strengthen diplomatic ties and cooperation in a wide range of areas.

In April, Spain’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Jose Manuel Albares said that Madrid must “maintain the best relations” with Rabat.

Ties between Madrid and Rabat experienced a year-long diplomatic crisis  after Spain’s decision to host the leader of the separatist Polisario Front for hospitalization in April 2021.

But relations between the two countries have significantly warmed since 2022, with the   turning point being Madrid’s  decision to unambiguously support and hail Morocco’s Autonomy Plan as the most serious and credible political basis to end the dispute over Western Sahara.
