Rabat – FC Barcelona have reportedly shown interest in Bayern Munich full-back Noussair Mazraoui, inquiring the German club about the price of the 25 year-old Moroccan player.
Mazraoui best plays as a right-back, but can also play as a central midfielder and winger. The Moroccan had a few appearances under former coach Julian Nagelsmann before he was sidelined due to injury.
He has maintained a good form after the arrival of new head coach Thomas Tuchel, scoring one goal and getting an assist in the Bundesliga.
According to the Spanish newspaper El Nacional, however, Mazraoui’s time could reach a sudden end with Bayern, due to the club’s “disappointing season” and a probable departure of Tuchel.
Bayern Munich has been disqualified from the DFB Pokal cup and the UEFA Champions League. In addition, they are likely to fail to win the Bundesliga title for the first time in a decade, as Borussia Dortmund currently top the league.
Because of this, Mazraoui could be compelled to leave Munich as his chances may lessen in the absence of Tuchel, the outlet reports, adding that Barca would be his suitable option as the Spanish club is short of right-backs..
Barcelona’s manager Xavi Hernandez has, however, highlighted the need for a midfielder, rather than a right-back, in light of Sergio Busquets’ departure in the summer.
“It’s not the number one priority. Busi is leaving and we need a high-level defensive midfielder. An important, differential footballer is leaving us. And we have to replace him. The more we strengthen ourselves, we’ll be more competitive,” he said.
Spanish sports outlet Mundo Deportivo reported that Mazraoui recently asked his agent to “find a way out for him to sign with Barcelona,” as the player is highly interested in joining the Spanish football club.
