Rabat – South Africa’s head coach Hugo Broos has announced his preliminary squad in preparation for an Africa Cup of Nations qualifier game against Morocco.
The decisive matchup will take place on June 17, with both countries looking forward to securing a spot at the upcoming AFCON.
Morocco leads Group K, with two wins in the previous games.
Broos named 32 players for the game, including some of his team’s football stars.
The goalkeepers lineup includes Ronwen Williams from local club Mamelodi Sundowns, as well as Ricaro Goss, and Eli Mothwa.
In defense, the coach named Given Msimango from TS Galaxy, Thapelo Maselo from Supersport United, and Sydny Mobbie, along with nine other defenders – the majority of whom are playing for local Mamelodi Sundowns.
The midfield lineup includes seven football players, including Teboho Mokoena, Bathusi Aubaas, and Grant Magerman, along with others.
The forward lineup includes Monnaupule Saleng, Themba Zwane, among many others.
CAF, the governing body of African football, has appointed Chadian referee Haji Allau Mahamat to officiate the match between the Atlas Lions and the Bafana Bafana in Johannesburg.
The who assistant referees for the game are Cameroon’s Albes Kai Nbu Nkogo and Chadian referee Issa Yaya.
Ahead of their qualifier game, Morocco’s national football team will face off Cape Verde in a friendly game
The game will take place on june 12 at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Sports Complex Stadium in Rabat at 8 p.m. local time.
The Atlas Lions are determined to bring the AFCON trophy to Morocco this year, with head coach Walid Regragui pledging that he would immediately resign if the Atlas Lions do not reach at least the semi-finals of the continental competition.
“We must have the spirit to be winners; this is why I put pressure on myself and decided to resign if we don’t achieve the semi-finals of the next AFCON,” he said, stressing that if Morocco’s Atlas Lions can dominate the African continent, they can also dominate the world.
