Morocco’s Tourism Office Unveils Plans to Increase Airline Capacity

Rabat – Morocco’s National Tourism Office (ONMT) is intensifying efforts to position the country among the world’s top 10 destinations, aiming for a boost in Morocco-bound airline capacity with a target of 8.2 million seats, or 3.9 million additional potential passengers.

In collaboration with several airlines, the ONMT plans to introduce 33 new routes connecting eight Moroccan destinations to nine European markets in the summer of 2023, the office said in a press release.

Simultaneously, the ONMT is prioritizing domestic tourism through the “Ntla9awfbladna” campaign. With an ambitious action plan seeking an annual growth rate of 13% by 2026, the ONMT aims to elevate Morocco’s global standing as a premier travel destination.

The Moroccan national football team’s historic journey at the 2022 World Cup has positively impacted the country’s image and reputation as a desirable destination, ONMT said, emphasizing that their goal of placing Morocco among the world’s top 10 admired destinations is now more achievable than ever.

In April 2023, ONMT launched its 2023-2026 action plan titled “Light in Action,” with the goal of positioning Morocco among the world’s top 10 destinations for tourism.

ONMT’s action plan is part of the 2023-2026 tourism roadmap, which was launched on March 2023 by Morocco’s Tourism Minister Fatim Zahra Ammor.

With a budget of MAD 6 Billion ($598.6 million), the roadmap aims to attract 17.5 million tourists, generate MAD 120 Billion ($11.9 billion) in tourism revenue, and create 200,000 new jobs by 2026.

Morocco has maintained its popularity as one of the world’s top tourist destinations. The Washington Post has featured Morocco as one of the world’s premier travel destinations for this year, further bolstering the country’s appeal to international travelers.

Meanwhile, recent data from the ministry of tourism indicate that 5.1 million tourists visited Morocco as of the end of May 2023, marking a growth rate of 20 % compared to the same period in the year 2019.
