Rabat – King Mohammed VI has reaffirmed Morocco’s unwavering commitment to foster coexistence, unity, and harmony among its diverse religious communities, positioning the North African country as an example of peaceful interfaith relations in the region.
The monarch made the remarks in a speech delivered by the President of the Moroccan House of Representatives Rachid Talbi El Alami at the Parliamentary Conference on “Interfaith Dialogue: Collaborating for Our Common Future.”
The event, taking place between June 13 and 15 in Marrakech, convenes legislators, religious leaders, and renowned researchers from across the world.
“While Islam is the religion of the country, the Moroccan Constitution stipulates that ‘the country guarantees the free practice of religion to all,’” said King Mohammed VI, who has made it his personal responsibility to protect and safeguard the rights of Moroccan Jews and Christians.
Underlining Morocco’s commitment to promote religious moderation and coexistence, the king celebrated the country’s place among the first nations to launch international mechanisms aimed at fostering inter-civilizational dialogue and combating terrorism, radicalism, and extremism.
Morocco has played a key role in the establishment of the World Forum of the Alliance of Civilizations. The ninth session of the forum took place in November 2022 in the Moroccan city of Fez.
“This thousand-year-old city symbolizes in a beautiful way the historical depth of our culture and the religious coexistence inherent to it,” the king said.

“With the same resolute determination, Morocco has contributed to the emergence of new mechanisms and is helping them grow in influence and consolidate their missions,” he added.
Morocco’s commitment to promoting dialogue extends beyond the Alliance of Civilizations. The country actively participates in international conferences such as the International Conference on Dialogue of Cultures and Religions and the Conference on the Rights of Religious Minorities in the Land of Islam.
In addition, the monarch underscored Morocco’s “crucial role” in establishing and structuring the Global Counterterrorism Forum, a testament to the country’s determination to combat terrorism on a global scale.
King Mohammed VI’s address highlighted the significance of religious coexistence, dialogue, and the rejection of intolerance and extremism, showing the monarch’s immense pride in the country’s achievements in managing the religious sphere.
“We are convinced of the importance of coexistence and dialogue, and firmly committed to the values of moderation and tolerance, which lead us to reject all forms of intolerance, hatred, and extremism,” he said.
King Mohammed VI concluded his speech by reiterating Morocco’s dedication to interfaith collaboration to embrace diversity, foster understanding, and create a harmonious and peaceful society.
