Rabat – Morocco is on the list of 13 countries that are eligible for visa-free air travel, a measure that seeks to facilitate easy and fast procedures for travelers wishing to visit the country.
Sean Fraser, Canada’s Minister of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship, announced the measure, which will see the addition of 13 countries to the electronic travel authorization (eTA) program.
The Canadian government, however, is putting conditions that travelers must meet to benefit from the program.
Under this measure, travelers who had a Canada visa in the last 10 years or a valid US non-immigrant visa can benefit from the program.
“Canada is a destination of choice for people looking to visit, do business, or reunite with family and friends. That’s why we are committed to improving our immigration programs and services by making them more efficient and equitable for people around the world,” Canada’s government announced on Tuesday.
Effective starting June 6, the measure also benefits other travelers from different countries, including Argentina, Costa Rica, Philippines, Uruguay, and Thailand, among others.
The Canadian government is betting on the new measure to contribute to the country’s economic growth through tourism and international business.
The measure also seeks to strengthen “Canada’s relationships with these countries while keeping Canadians safe.”
Through the measure, Canada also aims to help alleviate pressure on visa caseload to speed up applications process
“Individuals who already have a valid visa can continue to use it to travel to Canada,” the government said, stressing that travelers who are not eligible for the program will still need a visitor visa.
