Rabat – Morocco’s 2023 national baccalaureate exams kicked off today across testing centers throughout the country. The exams will take place between June 6 and June 10.
A record-breaking number of 426,000 candidates are taking the exam this year, representing a 18% increase of 62,530 students compared to the previous academic year.
Morocco’s Minister of National Education, Primary Education, and Sports, Chakib Benmoussa, recently shared data about the candidates, highlighting that 10% of this year’s baccalaureate candidates hail from private educational institutions, while 43% are enrolled in international programs.
Notably, the number of independent candidates has fallen by 34% to reach 132,000 individuals.
Among the candidates, scientific and technical branches dominate with 58% of the total, while literary branches account for 41% and the vocational branch comprises a mere 1%.
To facilitate the smooth conduct of the exams, 1,753 examination centers have been established across all the Academies in Morocco, and over 800 subjects had been prepared to accommodate the two sessions: regular and make-up exams.
The baccalaureate exam’s results will be announced on June 19. Students requiring make-up exams will have an opportunity to improve their performance from July 5 to 8.
Benmoussa also underscored the importance of warning candidates against resorting to cheating, noting that his ministry has launched awareness campaigns and coordinated with regional and security authorities to combat cheating in all its forms, particularly the use of digital devices.
Earlier this month, Morocco’s Ministry of National Education, Preschool, and Sports unveiled plans to introduce a new digital technology for the production and management of baccalaureate certificates and transcripts.
The introduction of a digitized baccalaureate diploma is set to begin with the upcoming 2023 session.
The primary objective behind this operation is twofold: to enhance the security of baccalaureate diplomas and transcripts, thereby protecting them against forgery, and to minimize the time gap between the announcement of exam results and the delivery of official documents to successful baccalaureate holders.
