Rabat – Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs has highlighted the country’s commitment to countering terrorism, stressing that Morocco, under the leadership of King Mohammed VI, has spared no effort in supporting multi-party measures to combat terrorism.

Bourita made the remarks on Friday during his speech at the opening of the second high-level meeting of heads of counter-terrorism and security agencies in Africa, which took place in Tangier.

“For His Majesty King Mohammed VI, working according to a multi-party approach in the fight against terrorism is essential,” the minister said.

The Minister noted that Morocco offers significant support to the various training programs that the United Nations Office of Counterterrorism and Training in Africa offers. This includes political, financial, and technical assistance.

In this respect, Bourita praised the efforts of Vladimir Voronkov, the Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations Counter-Terrorism Office, describing him as an “effective partner for Morocco and a committed advocate for African concerns and priorities.”

“No country can effectively fight terrorism in isolation from others,” he underlined,  explaining that “cooperation with partners is necessary.”

In addition, he stressed the need for African countries to develop their independence and create an African plan and vision to fight terrorism, affirming Morocco’s readiness to contribute in this regard.

“The connection between separatist and terrorist groups is evolving in a dangerous way, threatening the national sovereignty of many countries,” the Moroccan FM warned, stating that “terrorists are expanding their activities from the Sahel region towards the West African coast.”

“We cannot ignore this threat and must confront it quickly,” he stressed, adding that the region is witnessing a “devastating increase in terrorist attacks and violence.”
