Rabat – Istanbul became the stage for the first and largest fashion show dedicated to showcasing the Moroccan Caftan, with models from both within and outside Turkey participating in an event on Sunday. 

The show was organized by Moroccan businesswoman Wafa Afakir in collaboration with Turkish civil society organizations and institutions, according to Anadolu Agency.

The event attracted Moroccan residents in Turkiye as well as other guests of various nationalities. Against the backdrop of traditional Moroccan music, models from Morocco, Spain, and the United Arab Emirates presented the latest Caftan designs representing different regions of the kingdom.

The show highlighted the distinctive features of the Moroccan traditional attire, with its mesmerizing colors and intricate details. The designs showcased the uniqueness of each region and included special touches that added to the Caftan’s charm.

The event also featured a special presentation of renowned traditional clothing from other Arab countries, allowing attendees to appreciate the rich cultural heritage of the Arab world.

As part of the festivities, artists Karima Ghit and Iman Al-Tsunami performed, and notable Moroccan women who have made significant contributions to the fields of art and media were honored. Among the distinguished individuals recognized were Ghazal Benrabia and director Jihan Sanu.

Wafa Afakir, the director of the event, expressed that the purpose of the show was to promote cultural initiatives that foster mutual understanding between nations, emphasizing the importance of introducing the rich cultural heritage of Morocco.

The Moroccan Caftan, known for its elegance and sophistication, holds a special place in the country’s culture. It is traditionally worn by Moroccan women during important occasions, celebrations, and weddings. 

Afakir expressed her gratitude to the Turkish officials for providing the opportunity to showcase Moroccan culture in Turkiye, emphasizing the significance of cultural exchanges in promoting dialogue and understanding between nations.
