Rabat – Morocco’s Digital Development Agency (ADD) organized a workshop on Thursday in Rabat to examine the digitization of the country’s national education and training sectors.
The workshop was organized in partnership with the Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA), and aims to highlight how digital technology can be used in higher education.
The event included the participation of several domestic and international figures with experience in using digital technologies in the field, including Martin Noel, Director General of the Academy of Digital Transformation (ATN) at Canada’s Laval University.
Noel presented his university’s experience in the field, detailing how the technology was able to help structure and formulate classes in a way that fits every specific student’s availability.
“It is important to constantly diversify and innovate pedagogy models through asynchronous training, thematic paths, immersive learning experiences, and user-friendly online platforms,” he said.
Hanan Bakkali, Deputy Director of the National School of Computer Science and Systems Analysis (ENSIAS) also presented her school’s strategy for ensuring that the digital transition goes smoothly.
Bakkali stressed that the school’s digitization strategy aims to support teachers to “adopt active pedagogy and technology-centered pedagogical approaches that are centered on skills.”
Digitization has been a big talking point in Moroccan society recently as many acknowledge it as a necessary step for further advancement, especially in education where in addition to using more technology, advocates have been in favor of centering computer science in the educational system.
Speaking to Morocco World News recently, New York University professor Dr. Anasse Bari called on Morocco’s government, as well as others in the region to adopt new education strategies that center new technologies such as AI in order not to fall behind the rest of the world.
