Rabat – The upcoming commemoration of the Revolution of the King and the People anniversary in Morocco will proceed without a formal address from King Mohammed VI to the nation, a Spokesperson from the Royal Palace has announced.
In a statement, the Royal Palace explained that the anniversary falls just a few days after the Throne Speech and right before the Royal address at the opening of Parliament, emphasizing the importance of celebrating the occasion while taking into consideration the proximity of other significant events.
“The significance of this memorable anniversary cannot be measured solely by speeches and celebrations, but it is an anniversary so dear to the hearts of all Moroccans, King and People alike,” stressed the statement.
Celebrated on August 20th every year, The Revolution of the King and the People commemorates the country’s fight for independence, as well as celebrates the strong bond between the monarchy and the people. It also honors the sacrifices made by both sides in pursuit of freedom and sovereignty.
Despite the omission of the royal speech, the commemoration of the anniversary as a national holiday will remain a “shining beacon in the history of Morocco,” said the statement.

It explained that the national holiday will be commemorated across all Moroccan regions, with celebrations including cultural, artistic, and sports events, among other activities.
The Royal Palace further highlighted the significance of the celebration, saying that it “embodies the values of sacrifice and loyalty between a King who chose exile over relinquishing the sovereignty and freedom of His Homeland, and a courageous people who mobilized to defend their sanctities and sacrificed all that was dear to them for the return of their rightful King to the Throne.”
In 1953, French colonial authorities exiled the late King Mohammed V, the grandfather of the current King Mohammed VI, to the island of Corsica in the Mediterranean Sea.
The late King was a prominent figure in the struggle for Moroccan independence, and his exile and subsequent return was a significant event in the country’s history, symbolizing the sacrifice and determination of both Mohammed V and the Moroccan people in their quest for independence.
