Rabat – A Turkish Airlines flight from Istanbul to Marrakech was forced to make an emergency landing in Algeria after a passenger reportedly committed suicide on board.
The event unfolded on a Boeing 737-MAX8, leaving both passengers and crew devastated by the unfortunate turn of events.
The distressed passenger had locked themselves in the bathroom shortly after take off.
Concerned flight attendants made desperate attempts to open the door, growing increasingly worried as time went on, a statement from Turkish Airline said.
When they finally gained access to the bathroom, the crew discovered that the passenger had taken their own life.
Immediate first aid was administered to the passenger with the assistance of a physician who happened to be travelling on the same flight.
Despite their best efforts, the pilot was left with no choice but to make an emergency landing in Algeria, where medical teams promptly assessed the situation and confirmed the passenger’s passing.
Local authorities took charge of the deceased passenger’s body, commencing necessary procedures, while the plane resumed its journey to Marrakech after the necessary investigations and formalities.
