Rabat – A viral video sparked an uproar online as it appears to document Danish police’s complicity in the Islamophobic acts that shook the country’s capital last month as many in the world strongly took issue with a court’s greenlighting of a Quran-burning protest.

The video captures the moment when police officers used extreme violence and force to prevent a woman protesting against a Quran-burning demonstration from protecting a copy of the Quran from one of the far-right activists that had come out to provocatively burn copies of Islam’s holy book.

The video further shows the woman taking the Quran away from a few extremist protesters who had organized a new Quran-burning demonstration.

Police violently intervened, however, taking the Quran away from the woman and giving it back to the protesters who were seeking to burn it.

On Monday this week,  two protesters set a copy of the Quran alight in front of the Iraqi embassy in the capital of Denmark, Copenhagen.

Following the Islamophobic act, Iraq’s Foreign Affairs Ministry called on the international community, especially on the EU, to “quickly reconsider so-called freedom of expression and the right to demonstrate.”

On Tuesday, a new group of far-right protesters set fire to copies of the Quran in front of the Egyptian and Turkish embassies in Copenhagen.

Similar incidents took place in Sweden over the past month, and the repeated shows of unashamed hostility towards islam and Muslims have ignited concerns across Europe and beyond, with many strongly condemning the apparent inaction of authorities and calling for appropriate measures to effectively tackle the surge in anti-Islam sentiments and behaviors in Europe.

Many Muslim-majority countries have been speaking against the inaction of concerned governments, notably by recalling ambassadors for consultations.

Iraq recently expelled Sweden’s ambassador and threatened to cut ties with the Nordic country if similar Islamophobic incidents continue to happen in the country.

Last month, Morocco also recalled its ambassador from Stockholm, condemning the proliferation of Islamophobic acts and the surging tendency in some countries in the West to disregard and hurt the feelings of billions of Muslims.
