Rabat – The Moroccan women’s football team lost their last friendly game to their Jamaican counterparts today at the B.T. Connor Reserve stadium in the suburbs of Melbourne, Australia, as part of their preparations for the 2023 Women’s World Cup in Australia and New Zealand from July 20 to August 20.

This match follows two 0-0 draws against Italy and Switzerland, who are ranked 16th and 20th respectively in the FIFA rankings.

The first game against Italy was played on July 1, while the one against Switzerland took place on July 5, whose performance, according to Morocco’s coach Reynald Pedros, was “satisfactory.”

In the 2023 high-level World Cup event, Morocco is placed in Group H alongside Colombia, Germany, and South Korea.

The tournament’s coming days will see the Atlas Lionesses take on Germany on the first match day on July 24. The match will be played at the Melbourne Rectangular stadium at 9:30 a.m. Moroccan time.

On the second match day, Morocco will play against South Korea on July 30 at Hindmarsh Stadium.

Morocco’s last match in the group stage will be against Colombia on August 3 at Perth Oval Stadium.

Last year, the women’s  team made headlines as they qualified for the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) finals in July.

The Atlas Lionesses made history at the WAFCON tournament, which Morocco hosted, by becoming the first Arab country to compete in the prestigious championship game.

As their first ever participation in the world cup, it is crucial to reflect on the Moroccan team’s fantastic achievement last year, as they get ready for this year’s 2023 World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.
