Rabat – Israeli fighter jets launched an attack on the Gaza Strip following the firing of rockets from the besieged territory. The strike occurred shortly after Israel concluded a large-scale offensive in Jenin, which has drawn significant backlash from regional and international parties.
Israel’s decision to conduct the airstrike came in response to rockets that had been fired towards southern Israel from the Gaza Strip, the Israeli military claimed.
No human casualties have been reported as a result of the Gaza strike.
The residents who had been displaced from Jenin’s refugee camp due to the raid started returning overnight on Wednesday to assess the damage inflicted upon their homes and belongings.
According to the Palestinian Red Crescent Society, approximately 3,000 people, equivalent to 500 families, evacuated the camp during the offensive.
The Jenin refugee camps are home to a large population of Palestinians who are descendants of individuals who were displaced during the establishment of Israel in 1948.
While Israel asserted that its attack targeted fighters in Jenin, aid groups in the region have insisted that they assisted civilians of all age groups wounded during the offensive.
The raid on Jenin has gathered international condemnation from countries including Iran, Egypt, Jordan, and the Arab League.
The United Nations Secretary-General, Antonio Gueterres, expressed deep concern regarding the assault on Jenin and intends to convene a meeting on friday to address the matter.
Israel has escalated its violence in Palestinian territories in recent years, with attacks on Al-Aqsa mosque, the Gaza strip, and other areas being a regular occurrence.
