Rabat – Morocco’s Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita and his Omani counterpart Badr bin Hamad bin Hamood Al-Busaidi signed today four new bilateral cooperation agreements encompassing various fields.
The agreements include one for cooperation in ports and maritime transport, as well as a Memorandum of Understanding between the two countries’ diplomatic academies.
They also signed Memorandum of Understandings to promote consumer protection cooperation, as well as cooperation between Morocco’s National Railways Office (ONCF) and Oman Rail.
The agreements were signed on the sidelines of the sixth meeting of the Morocco-Oman Joint Commission, which took place in Rabat on Tuesday.
Speaking at the meeting, Bourita commended the relations between the two countries.
Describing the commission as the “main mechanism for the strengthening of bilateral relations,” he said the meeting represents both countries’ “keenness” to convene regularly.
The Moroccan diplomat also mentioned Oman’s support of Morocco’s territorial sovereignty, praising “the supportive positive stances” that the Sultanate adopted on the Western Sahara dispute.

During the meeting, the Omani delegation expressed support for the North African country’s territorial integrity, considering that the Autonomy Plan is the most credible and realistic basis to solve the dispute.
“Our bilateral relations have developed positively in a number of fields, such as education,” Bourita said. “The commercial aspect has also seen a qualitative leap forward, with trade volume set to reach MAD 1.5 billion by 2022.”
He further emphasized how important it is to “involve all stakeholders in the economic dynamic between the two countries,” noting the role of the Morocco-Oman Business Council to that end.
The Sultanate equally praised Morocco’s role in establishing the foundations of peace and development in Africa.
