Rabat – Moroccans are also celebrating the fourth of July this evening, but not in commemoration of the US Independence Day. Instead, Moroccan football fans’ celebration will be focusing tonight on the U23 national football team, which is just one step away from reaching the AFCON final.
The Atlas Lions will face Mali today in an exciting semi-final game that will take place at the Moulay Abdellah Complex in Rabat.
The match will start at 9 p.m. Moroccan time, with SNRT Arriadiya on TNT broadcasting it for fans who prefer to watch games on TV.
People who are subscribed to beIN Sport can also watch the game on the network, while DM Sport is also expected to air the showdown between the Moroccan and Malian teams.
Given their eye-catching performances during the first stages of the tournament, Morocco’s Atlas Lions are many fans and observers’ favorites to win tonight’s game.
The Moroccan team clinched several impressive victories in the group stages, including a 2-1 comeback victory against a dogged Guinean team in the opening game and an imposing 5-1 annihilation of Ghana’s U23 team in the second group match.
“We treat every match as if it were a final because our goal is to qualify for the Olympics and clinch the title,” the team’s coach Issame Charai said at a press conference last week when asked about Morocco’s game plan and objectives for tonight’s match.
Meanwhile, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) also has celebrated Morocco’s national team’s triumphs at the ongoing continental tournament, saying in a statement last week that “Morocco has been buoyed by the support of their home crowd.”
CAF further emphasized that the Moroccan national team “will rely on leading striker Adessamad Ezzalzouli, who has three goals to his name, as they aim to secure quick qualification for the Olympics.”
