Rabat – Morocco’s King Mohammed VI is set to deliver a speech on Saturday at 9 p.m. Moroccan time on the occasion of the 24th Throne Day, according to a press release from the Ministry of the Royal Household, Protocol and Chancellery.
The speech will be broadcast on Morocco’s national radio and television channels tonight, the press release said, adding that the King will also preside over a reception in the city of M’diq on Sunday afternoon for the occasion.
On Monday, he will chair an oath-taking ceremony of officers and new graduates of military, paramilitary and civil schools in Tetouan, it goes on to specify.
He will also preside over an allegiance ceremony in Tetouan’s Mechouar Square on that same day.
The celebrations are notable as over the past few years, celebratory activities for the Throne Day were postponed or scrapped as a protective measure against the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Throne Day is celebrated on July 30 of each year, and commemorates the King’s accession to the throne. Usually, celebrations take place throughout the country’s various regions, and are accompanied by other royal activities such as pardons.
