Rabat – Alsa Casablanca, one of Morocco’s leading transportation companies, has reportedly decided to terminate its contract with the company responsible for managing its Wi-Fi platform due to the inadvertent inclusion of the Polisario flag in the Wi-Fi network of its buses.
The decision was the result of a meeting with regional authorities, signaling a cybersecurity concern that has raised eyebrows nationwide, with Moroccan citizens condemning the incident and calling for the protection of national symbols.
In a meeting held on Monday, prominent figures from the Casablanca-Settat region convened to address the puzzling inclusion of the separatist flag of the Algerian-backed and self-proclaimed Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic (SADR).
The attendees included regional authorities, Casablanca’s Mayor, and Alsa Casablanca’s General Manager, among others.
The meeting aimed to shed light on the circumstances that led to this error. Regional authorities and the delegated authority for urban transport viewed the incident as a grave mistake, demanding a comprehensive explanation from Alsa regarding the issue.
In addition, they hinted at possible punitive measures against those responsible for this act, considering it a violation of national constants and sacred values.

Alsa Casablanca’s representatives echoed the concerns of regional authorities, as well as the sentiments of Moroccans who were shocked to come across the separatist flag in Alsa’s Wi-Fi network.
The transportation company clarified that the appearance of the Polisario flag stemmed from a digital vulnerability, leading to its inclusion in the list of locations on an external internet access platform via Wi-Fi.
Alsa said it immediately demanded corrective action from the responsible company as soon as they became aware of the situation.
However, authorities requested the termination of Alsa’s contract with the company responsible for managing their Wi-Fi platform, with the aim of preventing future occurrences of such incidents.
Alsa Casablanca promptly issued a statement outlining their decision to terminate their contract, emphasizing the company’s unwavering respect for the territorial integrity of Morocco, “spanning from Tangier to Lagouira.”
They also reaffirmed their commitment to upholding Moroccan principles, values, and sacred symbols.
