Rabat – King Mohammed VI addressed a letter to UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan discussing the strong bilateral relations between the UAE and Morocco and ways to further strengthen them for the mutual benefit of both nations and their people.
The message was conveyed by Nasser Bourita, Morocco’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, during a reception held by Sheikh Mohamed at Qasr Al Bahr in Abu Dhabi.
During the meeting, Bourita conveyed King Mohammed VI’s greetings and wishes for the continued progress and prosperity of the UAE, and Sheikh Mohamed reciprocated by extending his greetings to the Moroccan King and expressing his desires for Morocco’s further development and growth.
Sheikh Mohamed also discussed with Bourita the robust ties that bind the UAE and Morocco, emphasizing their shared vision for the ongoing cooperation between the two nations and their peoples.
The two officials explored opportunities for collaboration between the two countries in various vital sectors, including sports and youth development, with the aim of achieving sustainable economic development and prosperity for both countries. The discussions also included updates on COP28, which is being hosted by the UAE.
Attending the meeting was Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad bin Tahnoun Al Nahyan, Advisor for Special Affairs at the Ministry of Presidential Court; Khalifa Shaheen Al Marar, Minister of State, and Fouzi Lekjaa, President of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation and Chairman of the Committee responsible for Morocco’s bid to host the 2030 FIFA World Cup.
The visit is the latest in a series that Bourita and Lekjaa have been conducting in the Gulf, delivering letters from King Mohammed VI to leaders in the region.
The King addressed letters to Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman, as well as Qatar’s Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, discussing the bilateral ties between Morocco their countries and Morocco.
The diplomatic tour aims to strengthen ties between Morocco and Gulf countries as well as gather support for Morocco’s bid to host the 2030 FIFA World Cup.
King Mohammed VI has repeatedly emphasized the strategic importance of supporting Morocco’s bid to host the 2030 World Cup.
In his latest speech on the occasion of the Throne Day, he described the bid as “historic,” adding that it is an “unprecedented candidacy which brings together two continents – Africa and Europe – as well as two civilizations.”
Morocco and the UAE share strong diplomatic relations, as the UAE is among countries supporting Morocco’s territorial integrity over the Western Sahara.
The UAE is Morocco’s second-largest trading partner in the Gulf region and the third-largest investor in the country.
Emirati investments are also strongly present in Morocco, covering various sectors such as oil, telecommunications, renewable energy, and phosphates.
