Rabat – Following the Atlas Lionesses’ epic qualification for the Round of 16 at the 2023 Women’s World Cup, the Moroccan national team will receive a total of $1.87 million (MAD 18.2 million) in prize money from FIFA.
The ongoing tournament marks the first Women’s World Cup in which a portion of the prize money has been allocated to each individual player. This means that each player from the Moroccan squad will receive $60,000 (over MAD 584,217).
In the event that the team qualifies for the quarter-final by defeating France on August 8, the prize money will reach $2.18 million for the team, while players would receive $90,000 each.
The prize money will increase as the teams advance in the tournament, with the team securing fourth place receiving $2.45 million while the third place holder will receive $2.61 million.
Meanwhile, the runners-up will receive $3 million, whereas the winning team will receive a total of $4.29 million.
The 2023 Women’s World Cup has seen several other changes in the prize money offered to teams. It rose to $110 million, which is double the original offer of $60 million and a substantial increase from the $30 million seen at the last Women’s World Cup.

“The amounts allocated under this unprecedented new distribution model will have a real and meaningful impact on the lives and careers of these players,” FIFA President Gianni Infantino said when announcing the changes last March.
Despite the increases in prize money for women’s football, there remains a noticeable disparity when compared to their male counterparts, who received a total of $440 million in prize money at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
This disparity in prize money is one of the issues FIFA has pledged to address. “Our ambition would be, of course, to be able to have equality in payments for the 2026 men’s and the 2027 women’s World Cups,” Infantino said.
