Rabat – In a recent episode of “Soual Mobachir” on AI Arabiya channel, Morocco’s Minister of Justice Abdellatif Ouahbi expressed his concerns regarding what he called “the growing influence of homosexuals on society.”
While he considered this development to be temporary, Ouahbi warned about the potential “serious consequences” that may arise from this situation.
Ouahbi said that gay people possess the means to influence public opinion, particularly in Europe, the United States, and some northern European countries, where they enjoy a certain level of social and political legitimacy.
He also pointed out that some Western leaders openly celebrate their same-sex marriages, adding to his argument that homosexuality is becoming more accepted in these regions.
The minister also raised concerns about what he described as their significant economic influence and presence in decision-making circles. While he did not provide specific examples, he claimed that they hold sway over economic matters, although the extent and nature of this influence remain unclear.

It is worth noting that Morocco, like many other countries, criminalizes homosexuality under Article 489 of its penal code.
The law prescribes imprisonment of six months to three years and a fine ranging from 120 to 1,000 dirhams for individuals involved in same-sex relationships or acts.
Ouahbi emphasized that Arab and Islamic societies do not aim to fight individuals based on their sexual orientation, but he insisted that they must stand firm in defending their own cultural values and convictions.
